Vitamin
A
We generally talk about vitamin D
deficiency or more commonly the other water-soluble vitamins, for example, vitamins
B, and C. we are more likely to get deficient in water-soluble vitamins as they cannot
be stored in the body like fat-soluble vitamins.
But vitamin A is also another very
important for people who want good nutrition for their good and younger
looks.
Important functions of vitamins in
our body:
Vitamin for eyes:
Vitamin A is a very important vitamin for the eyes. Its deficiency
causes vision problems. It causes night blindness a condition in which a
person is unable to see clearly at night. It is
because of the lack of rhodopsin that is synthesized with vitamin A and help us
see in the dark.
Vitamin A being fatty in nature
gives the skin lubricated textures. Its deficiency causes the skin and hair to
look dry and stiff. The white dry flakes appear in hair and on the skin, a symptom
of a vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A plays a role in our skin's immune system.
Many skin care products contain a
combination of water-soluble vitamin B3, (Niacinamide) and vitamin E. These are
all effective to give skin a good texture and avoid acne and other skin issues. In
short, healthy glowing skin and dandruff-free hair require an adequate supply of
fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamin A
Immune system and vitamin A
Vitamin A is involved in the lubrication
process of various organs in our body. This includes the lining of the lungs,
nasal cavity, eyes, ears, etc. so it plays a crucial part in better
respiratory health.
So its deficiency may cause problems with the lining of the throat, ears, lungs, eyes, etc. the dryness on the
inner lining of these organs make them more exposed to infections.
So Vitamin A has an impact on the overall immunity of the body.
Sources
of vitamin A
There are many rich sources of
vitamin A in plant and animal-based diet
They are richly present in carrots, mangoes,
papaya, apricot, etc.
But the plant-based vitamin A called
carotenes are not so good at being absorbed into the body, they are actually
not an active type of vitamin A. The body has to work on it to absorb vitamin A
properly.
On the other hand, vitamin A found in animals like fish oil is called retinol. In this form it is active, making it easier for our digestive system to absorb it. And use it.
Why
do we get a deficiency of vitamin A?
·
The main cause of vitamin A
deficiency can be the lesser intake in the diet.
· the Second factor is the one, mentioned
above. We generally take in the inactive form of vitamin A from vegetables that
are absorbed only around 6 to 7 percent by our digestive system, so we think we
are taking enough vitamin A as we eat a lot of vegetables and carrots but its
impact is very less.
·
If a person’s gall bladder is not
producing enough bile, it leads to lesser absorption of vitamin A. Its
absorption is directly related to the good health of your gut. If someone has a
missing gall bladder, he will definitely face the problem of digestion and
absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins.
·
The function of bile is to emulsify
fat, breaking fat down into small droplets and helping them be digested or
absorbed easily into the bloodstream. Its deficiency causes a lack of fat absorption,
leading to dryness of skin, hair, and inner skin lining of various organs as
mentioned before.
