Advantages and disadvantages of black tea.
Benefits
1.
Biggest benefit of black tea is its
anti-cancer properties. Black tea is oxidized giving you a new
compound called theaflavin. It is higher in black tea than it is in green tea
and that is really the red pigment in black tea. There is something so unique about this pigment it
is a phytonutrient. FAS stands for fatty acid synthase, it's an enzyme that
helps you make lipids in your body and cancer cells need a lipid membrane
to exist. This enzyme that makes this fatty acid is over-expressed in
cancer in other words cancer cells require more of this. So if you
can inhibit this enzyme, you can inhibit cancer and the studies show that
red tea pigment reduces FAS by 87 percent while 76 percent is reduced by green tea.
2. There's a lot of research that establishes decreased risk of metabolic syndrome which involves blood pressure, cholesterol and belly fat problems, etc
3. Black tea can help lower insulin eventually it can help decrease blood sugar, decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as decrease the risk of stroke. All these are because of the red pigment present in tea called theaflavin and tannins, the antioxidants.
4. Because of its antiviral and antibacterial properties it boosts your immunity.
5. It can help decrease your cavities because of its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
6. it can also help decrease the risk of osteoporosis
7. Tannins present in black tea are antioxidants and affect brain health. Actually, all these factors collectively control sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc.
Disadvantages
1. However drinking tea on empty stomach is not good at all. When you wake up early in the morning, your body needs calories as it has been in a fasting state for about 8 -12 hours. When you take tea the body tries to absorb it into the bloodstream. But when tea is mixed with acidic gastric juices it makes a mixture of very low pH. When absorbed into the blood it leads to the acidity of blood called acidosis. Long-term use may lead to this condition being permanent, and we know our enzymes work at certain pH levels. It affects many metabolic processes of the body.
2.
Tannins are reported to hinder the
absorption of some nutrients into the bloodstream. So it must not be taken right
after a meal.
