Psychological effects of sleep deprivation

  Psychological effects of sleep deprivation:

This article covers how sleep affects our mental and psychological effects. Let's first discuss how much sleep is actually required by a different group of people. as we know that age, health condition, and genetics determine the requirement of sleep and are actually different for different people.

It is a known fact that a normal adult requires 6-8 hours of sleep per day. and that the requirement decreases with age. Does this apply to everyone? Actually, required sleep hours vary from person to person. It is supposed to be something that can be increased or decreased by practice.

How can sleep deprivation affect your health?

The effect of lack of sleep is really bad for human health.

1. Sleep deprivation may make people more sensitive to pain, as proven by a research study

2. Lack of sleep is known to cause more diabetes and blood pressure issues.

3. The body's repair and maintenance mechanism work best while one is in deep sleep, and the deep sleep stage is acquired after 2 to 3 hours of sleep. so not having enough sleep cause the body to heal and repair itself slowly. If the body is not effectively repairing and synthesizing new cells. it will lead to faster aging as whatever wear and tear happens to your body throughout the day is not fixed.

4. In kids' sleep, deprivation adversely affects the learning capability of kids and is the major cause of the development of depression at an early age.

5. Lack of focus because of lack of sleep has been a cause of road accidents.

6. Ability of a person to judge, analyze and evaluate is affected by sleep deprivation.

What if you only sleep five hours or less per day? are you sleep-deprived?

Well to look into it, you need to consider the quality and quantity of your sleep.

and how many hours of sleep are counted as sleep deprivation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the suggested hours of sleep are recommended for different age groups.

Healthy sleep hours

  • for newborns, it can be up to 17 hours a day. gradually the requirement for sleep diminishes. the adults may require an average of 6-8 hours of sleep for better repair and maintenance of the body.

HOWEVER

National Institute of Health has researched a rare gene found in some people who can live perfectly fine with half of the total recommended time of sleep like an adult can be perfectly healthy and fine if he sleeps a good quality sleep for 4 hours.

Sleep health and sleep cycles

You must have felt drowsiness while working during the day that is perfectly fine. actually, it is your body telling you that rest is needed. it is actually recommended to have a power nap, and refresh yourself to work.

Actual sleep hours requirement entirely varies from person to person.

some may sleep for 4 to 5 hours a day and do not feel sleepy or tired throughout the day. that means this duration of sleep is good enough for them. If someone feels sleepy, no matter how long, he slept during the night, the body is asking for more sleep, so a power nap is much needed. I have friends, who have insomnia and they deal with it and stay perfectly fine and active throughout the day, their mental performance is not affected. I am perfectly fine with 5 hours sleep schedule,

There is a new science of epigenetics suggesting, that a human can modify anything and any behavior at any time of his\her age.  so generally more sleep or less sleep is different for individuals. How many hours do you require to sleep?
